At fifteen, Kathryn Shay wrote her first story, about a female newspaper reporter navigating a male-dominated newsroom, but teaching came first professionally. She kept both careers running in parallel for years, selling a manuscript to Harlequin Superromance before eventually retiring from teaching in 2004, from the very school where she'd started.

Her debut novel, The Father Factor, was published in 1995. This guide runs three later novels instead, from Just One Night in 1997 through Be My Babies in 2008. She lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children.
