Kjell Eriksson's debut, Knappgoken, appeared in Swedish in 1993 and opened his long-running Ann Lindell series, but it was The Princess of Burundi that won him the Swedish Crime Writers' Academy's Best Swedish Crime Novel Award and international attention once translated into English. He's named Maj Sjöwall, Per Wahlöö, and Henning Mankell among his influences.
