The cities of Minneapolis, where he opened his eyes to the world, and Virginia, where he spent his childhood, significantly shaped his worldview and writing. Bachelder analyzed his passion for the written word at Virginia Tech where he further honed his raw talents and graduated with a BA degree. Not resting on his laurels, he went on to chase his MFA at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
