Annabel Steadman, born in 1992, writes fantasy for children as A. F. Steadman. She studied law at Selwyn College, Cambridge, before completing a master's degree in creative writing. In 2020 she signed a seven-figure, three-book deal for her Skandar series about bloodthirsty unicorns, and Sony Pictures acquired film rights the same year. The first novel, Skandar and the Unicorn Thief, appeared in 2022.
