Abraham Verghese, born May 30, 1955, is an American physician and author who teaches medicine at Stanford, where he is a Provostial Professor and Vice Chair. President Barack Obama presented him with the National Humanities Medal in 2015, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2023, and his four bestselling books move between memoir and fiction.
