Keigo Higashino started his career as an engineer at Nippon Denso before turning to fiction, winning the Edogawa Rampo Prize at 27 for his novel Hokago. His book Himitsu, published in English as Naoko, won the Mystery Writers of Japan Inc. award, and The Devotion of Suspect X won the Naoki Prize for Best Novel while selling 800,000 copies in Japan in a single year — the second-highest-selling book in the country that year, fiction or nonfiction.

Naoko was his first work translated into English, in 2004. This guide runs four of his Detective Galileo novels, from The Devotion of Suspect X in 2011 through Silent Parade in 2018.
