Kelly Barnhill worked as a park ranger, an instructor, a secretary, and a bartender before her writing career took off — and it's taken off considerably: her honors include the Newbery Medal, fellowships from the Jerome Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the McKnight Foundation, plus the Texas Library Association Bluebonnet Award, a Parents' Choice Gold Award, and a Charlotte Huck Honor. She and her husband, Ted Barnhill, have three children together.
Her first book, the 2008 nonfiction title Animals with No Eyes, came before her fiction career properly began with 2011's The Mostly True Story of Jack. This guide covers everything since, six novels ending with 2022's When Women Were Dragons, in the order she wrote them.
