Sax Rohmer was the pen name of Arthur Henry Sarsfield Ward (1883β1959), who worked as a poet, songwriter, and comedy sketch writer for a music hall performer before turning to fiction. Born in Birmingham, England, he published his actual first book, Pause!, anonymously in 1910; it's long out of print today.
His real breakthrough came three years later, in 1913, with The Mystery of Dr. Fu-Manchu, the first of the series that made his name. This guide runs all fourteen Fu Manchu novels, an extraordinary sixty-year span from that 1913 debut to 1973's The Wrath of Fu-Manchu.
