A Carleton University journalism graduate, Rick Mofina spent his early career at the Toronto Star, the Ottawa Citizen, and the Calgary Herald, reporting on serial killings and interviewing murderers on death row — even riding along with the Mounties on Arctic patrol. None of that made it into print as fiction until If Angels Fall in 2000, which launched his Tom Reed and Walt Sydowski series; an earlier novel, based on his own hitchhiking trip from Toronto to California, was never published at all.
