Books in Order: An Engaging Guide to D.E. Stevenson’s Novels

Books in Order: Delving into the Opus of D.E. Stevenson

D.E. Stevenson (1892-1973) was not just any Scottish author, but the impeccable writer behind several light engaging novels. Intriguingly, amongst her crowning series were the Mrs. Tim series and the Miss Buncle series, as well as other captivating mini-series, all beautifully interwoven to create a literary tapestry. A note of interest is that she was related to Robert Louis Stevenson through a lineage that boasts of creativity, as her father, David Alan Stevenson, was a beacon engineer and the great cousin of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Born and bred in Edinburgh, D.E. Stevenson’s early education was at home. Interestingly, her writing journey started at the tender age of eight. However, due to her parents’ disapproval, each word penned had to be done secretively. When she reached maturity, her academic vision was sadly thwarted by her father’s rejection to enroll her in a university. Despite this, she found love and went ahead to marry a captain in the 6th Ghurkha Rifles in 1916.

A landmark moment in her career came in 1923 when her debut novel Peter West was published. Despite her passing, Stevenson’s literary flame was reignited in 2011 when two previously unpublished novels graced the public. So then, we journey through D.E Stevenson’s illustrious canon, and we present a comprehensive list of D.E. Stevenson’s books in order from when they were originally published.
